We’re Canadian, Eh

My sis and I wrote this for Talent Night at the 2005 OCRC young people conference hosted by the Lynden YP out in Washington, US. We rapped it to a little hip hop track I built. I was mighty nervous and shaking and didn’t do nearly as well as I’d hoped but it was still fun.

Hey, everybody! This is Chris and his sis.
Could y’all take time to listen and just try not to dis.
We don’t claim to be good; we don’t claim to be pros
But here is our rhyme and here’s how it goes:

[Both]
We’re happy to say we’re Canadian, eh.
From the toques on our heads to the hockey we play.
It’s the first of July that’s our national day!
We’ve got zeds but no zees – the Canadian way!

[Chris]
“The last shall be first” – is that true for team 6?
This is our turf – we play soccer for kicks.
When it’s V-ball like a cannon we volley.
We be playin’ for reals; we be keepin’ it jolly.

[Rachel]
Team Four worked real hard but were missing some players.
Still we planned to defeat all the rest and nay sayers
When we got Lance on our team – thought maybe we’d win?
At least his sister’s no longer nagging at him.

[Chris]
And then there’s the time I reached the top of the wall.
From way up at top, like a kilometer tall,
People below looked like ants, teeny small.
Just a tad scary if you don’t like to fall!

[Rachel]
In the obstacle course figure 8s we turned
Walking in step, to run with water we learned.
And zipped through the web, though arachnids we’re not.
Now our muscles are strained and our ligaments taut!

[Rachel]
But our time in the States was more than just games and fun
Seminars and discussions and we’re sad that they’re done
With all this to say now we’ll tell you our plan:
It’s next August to be at the conference again.

[Both]
We’re happy to say we’re Canadian, eh.
From the toques on our heads to the hockey we play.
It’s the first of July that’s our national day!
But we’ve loved our stay, here in the US of A.
