Comment on this (0 so far) Darth wasn't yet running at this point. I thought "Darth" was a good name because it fits the sinister black body and tinted windows.
Comment on this (0 so far) Oooo! What's under the hood? Though the engine doesn't look too pretty at this point, inside it is ported and polished with forged pistons. | Comment on this (0 so far) To prevent any nasty detonation from plaguing the engine, we installed a J & S Electronics SafeGuard system. It can hear knocking and retard the timing. It also comes with a monitor showing the amount of retardation and the air/fuel ratio. Very nice little setup. |
Comment on this (0 so far) "OK, so where does the red wire go...?" I did most of the installation of the SafeGuard system. I was quite a newbie to car electronics but I learned a lot. (It felt like I did, at least...)

Comment on this (0 so far) y2005m08d20 - Once Darth was on the road and had some of kilometers under its belt we took it to Mostport International Speedway to compete in King of the Hill. On Saturday evening at the stock car track during intermission there is a chance for people to race their street cars. The vehicles race in pairs for one lap, and the winners pair up with the winners until their is only one car left. Dad drove, of course (I'd have been scared out of my wits). In this photo Dad is at the starting line with a Mazda RX7, the toughest competitor in the evening's group.
Comment on this (0 so far) y2005m08d20 - Dad outpowered the RX7 to the finish line! This photo is of the third and final round - Darth versus some white car. Dad is just ahead of it as they move into turn 3. Dad went wide though, and the other vehicle passed him! It was still ahead when they shot out of the last turn. Dad tromped on the throttle and roared past the opponent just in time! | Comment on this (0 so far) y2005m08d20 - Dad got a few moments of glory on the mic while I got to come on the track and take some photos. |
| Comment on this (0 so far) y2005m09d20 - The pipe running from the exhaust manifold to the turbo inlet came loose while Dad was driving one day. Instead of only replacing that section, we built a new exhaust system from stainless steel with greater flow. It took some time to build but at 1:30 one morning we finished and I took it for a test drive. All was well, and it was done in time to travel to Cornwall later that morning. Oh, ya, the photo is of a stainless steel flange I helped make. They take a while to make from scratch but look pretty. |
