Photos - Introducing XianZi y2005m06d04 On May 23, 2005 when I came home from the office my sister introduced me to a very thin, very affectionate female cat. She had given her some food since she was so skinny and we patted and petted her for a bit, which she soaked up, obviously having been used to attention at some previous time. Well, she quickly learned that the Sissons household provided food and back massages and began hanging around lots. She would try to get inside if she could and Dad (being the tender-hearted person he is) let her in and even had her sitting on his lap. Awww.... ^_^ I was never really adverse to having a second cat but until that time Telum's relations to visiting cats had been rather hostile so I didn't think he'd really take well to an addition. However, this new cutie didn't seem to upset him much so before we knew it we'd adopted her (or she us). To make it official we needed a name for her. "Telum" is Latin, meaning "missile", and we figured the new cat should have a foreign name too, like Chinese. So at my last Mandarin language class on May 28 we asked about a good Chinese name. After some deliberation the name "XianZi" was chosen, meaning "fairy". It is pronounced sort of like "shienz". So, without further delay, let me introduce XianZi!
